Exodus 3:14 NKJV
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”
And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that HE IS, and that HE IS A REWARDER OF THOSE WHO DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM.
Introduction:
The two great truths of life are: One, there is a God. Two, you are not Him. Many people foolishly presume to worship a “Wikipedia god” that any one can add or take away from who He is. Others consume God like a smorgasbord taking the parts they like and discarding the parts they don’t. Others insist that He is unknowable while still others say He doesn’t exist. These are fools.
What we do know of God is that He is incomprehensible but knowable. We were created in the image and likeness of our God but should never attempt to create a god of our own images and likeness as fallen creatures corrupted by sin and death.
Tozer wrote: To be right, we must think right. The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. The Scripture says, Although they knew God, they do not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations and their foolish hearts were darkened….who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen (Rom. 1:21, 25).
To project wrong imaginations and wrong thoughts onto God is both dangerous and deadly. Paul wrote to Pastor Timothy of the Church in Ephesus: Watch yourself and your teaching; continue in them; for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. (1 Tim. 4:16). Bible scholar and theologian J. I. Packer wrote: Ignorance of God, ignorance of both His ways and the practice of communion with Him, lies at the root much of the church’s weakness today. Such ignorance spawns great thoughts of men and leaves room only for small thoughts of God. Knowing God Beloved, does this not well describe the modern church today? With all the well-planned programs, man-made methodologies, technologies, facilities, business models, and growth strategies we are reaching less than 4% of this generation. This is wholly unlike the Early Church, who had none of the aforementioned. Yet of whom it was said: These that have turned the world upside down have come here also. (Acts 17:6). Their statement was, Silver and gold have I none but such as I have, give I unto thee; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk (Acts 3:6). The Modern Church can no longer say “Silver and gold have I none”, but neither can we say, “But such as I have given I unto thee”. God told the Prophet Daniel, But the people who know their God will display strength and take action (Dan. 11:32 NASB). God Himself said, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hos. 4:6). Moreover, Proverbs 29:18 NET, Without prophetic knowledge of Who God is, the people go astray.
Beloved our endeavor today is to decree and declare God for Who He is and how He has revealed Himself in Creation, Scripture, His Son, and His Holy Spirit. It is in knowing Him we know strength and can do mighty exploits in His name. Proverbs 9:10, Knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Paul wrote, my prayer of you is that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling…(Eph. 1:16-18 NKJV).
A scholarly study of past visitations of God and revival reveal that they were never experienced because of techniques, marketing, or campaign driven. Revival is when God comes to reveal Himself where He has been distorted, misrepresented, and misused. It is God taking center stage and men fading into the background.
Two of the most powerful acts we can do is take action with: One, to stand before the throne of God and declare who He is, who He is to us, and who we are to Him; Secondly, it is assembling together in His name and come into agreement as we decree His written word and prophetic spoken words together. Jesus spoke of this harmonic convergence of heaven and the house of prayer. “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Mt. 18:19-20 NKJV) He is there is the midst of them! That means He is here in our midst. He is mighty to save. There are two words that will be operational terms we use in prayer and praise. They are DECREE and DECLARE: de•cree; an official order by a legal authority; Job 22:23-26-28 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up… For then you will have your delight in the Almighty, And lift up your face to God. You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. YOU WILL ALSO DECREE A THING, AND IT WILL BE ESTABLISHED FOR YOU; So light will shine on your ways. de•clare; to express or make known formally or officially; to trumpet truth; Ps. 105:1-2 Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name; Declare His deeds among the nations…tell of all his wonderful acts.
Evangelicals are well-known to quote Youth With A Mission Founder Loren Cunningham: “To know Him and make Him known”. However, we cannot make known a God we do not know. Therefore, we will decree and declare Him for who He is in worship, for all that He has done in praise, and pray for all that He is and can do to come as we call on His name.
Our decrees and declarations are occurring in five arenas spiritually:
- The Throne of God
- The Sanctuary of our hearts
- The congregation of the saints
- The presence of our enemies’ encampments
- The unreached and unbelieving
From heaven, the Lord looks down and sees all manhood. From His dwelling place, He watches all who live on the earth—He forms the hearts of all—He considers everything they do. His eyes are on the righteous. He ears are attentive to the righteous (Ps. 33:13; 34:15)
We will decree and declare Who He is and What He does in five ways:
- The God WHO IS
- The God WHO IS I AM
- The God WHO IS ONE
- The God WHO CREATES
- The God WHO REIGNS SUPREME
- The God WHO IS (Jehovah-Elohim)
Genesis 1:26; 2:7 NKJV
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Genesis 1:1 NKJV
In the beginning God…
Revelation 1:8 NKJV
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord,
“WHO IS AND WHO WAS AND WHO IS TO COME, the Almighty.”
General Direction: We declare that our God exists and He is who He reveals Himself to be and who His Word declares Him to be; We praise Him for His wondrous works, give thanks for all He’s done, and worship Him because of who He is; He is the God of Creation, the Author of Holy Scripture, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Scriptures:
- 26 For(A)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have (B)life in Himself, 27 and (C)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, (D)because He is the Son of Man. –Jn. 5:26-27 NKJV
- 33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 36 For (A)of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, (B)to whom be glory forever. Amen.–Rom. 11:33, 36 NKJV
- 20 For since the creation of the world (A)His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and [a]Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but (B)became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 (C)Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the (D)incorruptible (E)God into an image made like [b]corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 (F)Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, (G)to dishonor their bodies (H)among themselves, 25 who exchanged (I)the truth of God (J)for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. –Rom. 1:20-25 NKJV
- 16 For (A)by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or (B)dominions or [a]principalities or [b]powers. All things were created (C)through Him and for Him. 17 (D)And He is before all things, and in Him (E)all things consist. 18 And (F)He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, (G)the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that (H)in Him all the fullness should dwell, –Col. 1:16-19 NKJV
- He (A)who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide (B)under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 (C)I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” 9 Because you have made the Lord, who is (A)my refuge, Even the Most High, (B)your dwelling place,
10 (C)No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will [a]set him on high, because he has (A)known My name. 15 He shall (B)call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be (C)with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.–Ps. 91:1-2, 9-10, 14-15 NKJV - 2 (A)“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, (B)out of the house of [a]bondage. 3 (C)“You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 (D)“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 (E)you shall not bow down to them nor [b]serve them. (F)For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, (G)visiting[c] the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but (H)showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. –Ex. 20:2-6 NKJV
- 12 “And now, Israel, (A)what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to (B)love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today (C)for your [a]good? 17 For the Lord your God is (A)God of gods and (B)Lord of lords, the great God, (C)mighty and awesome, who (D)shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. 18 (E)He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing. 22 Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now the Lord your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude. –Deut. 10:12-13, 17-18, 22 NKJV
- “Now (A)it shall come to pass, when (B)all these things come upon you, the blessing and the (C)curse which I have set before you, and (D)you [a]call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you, 2 and you (E)return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, 19 (A)I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that (B)I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your (C)life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”–Deut. 30:1-2, 19-20 NKJV
- 9 “As for you, my son Solomon, (A)know the God of your father, and serve Him (B)with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for (C)the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. (D)If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will (E)cast you off forever. 20 And David said to his son Solomon, (A)“Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. (B)He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. –1 Chron. 28:9, 20 NKJV
- 13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus (A)who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only [a]Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in (B)unapproachable light, (C)whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen. –1 Tim. 6:13-16 NKJV
- 17 Now to (A)the King eternal, (B)immortal, (C)invisible, to [a]God (D)who alone is wise, (E)be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.—1 Tim. 1:17 NKJV
- 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But (A)seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. –Mt. 6:32-33 NKJV
