R3 Alliance Prayer, SALT and LIGHT, Wednesday March 14, 2018

Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?

It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand,

and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men,

that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most significant portions of Scripture.  For here, Jesus the Word become flesh, defined how a Spiritual Kingdom would be made seen to the physical world. The 8 Kingdom Qualities, the Beatitudes, provide a sequential overlap of phases when combined form salt and light.  Interestingly, Jesus did not say you are “like” salt and light, but you “are”.  The implication was not literal but spiritual.  As is salt and light in the visible world so it is in the invisible.  They are essential elements in creation having primary purposes in sustaining all life on this planet.

Light was the first element of creation God spoke into existence out of Himself.  It was foundational of all energy.  From electromagnetic fields to low frequency waves such as radio to high frequency gamma rays.  Similarly, salt was valued as a most precious mineral, second only to gold, because of its many benefits.  Those listening to Jesus obviously understood the potentials of both salt and light.

It behooves us not to pluck these two kingdom fundamentals out of their context.  For without co-opting the preceding 8 qualities men made of flesh could not make the invisible seen. Thy kingdom come thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. (Mt. 6:10)  The heavenly realm is ever-seeking an earthly domain to display the glory of God.

Here is a condensed version of the 8 Kingdom Qualities that culminate the coming of heaven in earth.  Blessed I’ve become because I realize my moral bankruptcy before God.   I’ve learned the blessing of mourning myself to repentance.  I become more blessed from learning my impoverished state and sinful condition brings me to the bottom of true humility.  From there I begin to experience an acute thirst and deep hunger for righteousness wherewith I am stripped naked at the end of myself and now possess a new capacity to be filled.  The righteousness, not of me, overflows into being merciful to others as God is to me.  This blessed state of the ebb and flow of mercy clears the muddy waters of my sight enabling me to see God as He is.  My new encounter with the blessedness of a pristine perspective and perception of things causes the kingdom of heaven to emanate from my inner world to my outer world as the son of a peacemaker.  Then I realize His kingdom and righteousness exposes darkness and the wicked causing them to persecute me for righteousness’ sake.  However, still I am exceedingly blessed because I am counted worthy for the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings.

Here is where we arrive at the appointed destination of salt and light.  Salt has reference to the physical world of men, whereas light refers to the world’s of thinking and the spiritual entities and realities that surround us.  The King and His Kingdom’s manifesto has created a self-contained sphere within me.  Jesus said, the kingdom comes not with observation…the kingdom is within you. (Lk. 17:20)  I am unaffected or influenced by the world.  Jesus often used words of penetration when referring to His kingdom: i.e. water, wind, fire, salt, and light. His intention is to make the invisible seen while we are not absorbed into the culture nor are we isolated from the infusion into it either.  Rather, we are insulated from its corrupting properties and dispels darkness as it lights its candle.  We get a glimpse of reality on the Mount of Transfiguration when the pores of Jesus’ body where pierced with the Shekinah Glory of God emanating from His inner being.  We are no different as His temple.  It is through our transparency the King and His Kingdom can be seen.  We are in this world but not of this world.  As salty saints we can be seen and felt as “sons, well pleasing the Father” and as “servants, who do things well pleasing to the Father.”

Today we pray for the church to return to her basic elements for kingdom advancement.  Leonard Ravenhill wrote: Jesus told the church to go into all the world.  If we were honest today, all the world has come into the church.   In many cases we have detoured from the fundamentals of the faith causing us to be no good and trampled under the foot of men.  As salt and light we are difference makers and agents of change.   Our elements are for invasion of the world and prevailing against the gates of hell.  We display who we are, not to be seen of men for approval and praise, but to have our good works seen and glorify our Father in heaven.  Plato wrote, The unexamined life is not worth living. Our impact in this world will be measured by the high tide of His Kingdom come into us to indwell us and how well we dwell among men as salt and light.  This will not be because of coincidence but because of consequence.  Him working in us both to will and do of His good pleasure.

We will pray into FIVE DISTINCTIONS of SALT and LIGHT of the earth and of this world:

  • SALTY SAINTS…How BIG is the KINGDOM in us?
  • SALTY SAINTS…How POTENT is the KINGDOM through us?
  • O TASTE and SEE God’s GOODNESS in us.

We would be remiss if we didn’t point out that the Spiritual Kingdom is made seen by One invisible to human eyes and not mentioned here but later is sent by the King to be the Governor of the Kingdom of heaven on earth—Holy Spirit.

Let us lean into the Spirit of the Lord to pray for Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth and in us as it is in heaven.

  1. SALTY SAINTS…How BIG Is The KINGDOM In Us?

Matthew 5:13a NKJV

You are the SALT OF THE EARTH;

but if SALT loses its flavor, how will it be seasoned?

General Direction: To let Jesus live BIG in us as the quality of Sonship seasons our spheres of influence and impact; to see that our saltiness penetrates the world we live in to prevent or stop the rot and corruption of sin; to maintain our potency and quality creates thirst while creating well-watered gardens.

  • 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, –Eph. 3:16-20 NKJV
  • 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 20 But you have not so learned Christ…–Eph. 4:12-15, 20 NKJV
  • 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell…–Col. 1:15-19 NKJV
  • 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it[a] with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. –Col. 2:7-10 NKJV
  • 3 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi,And purge them as gold and silver,That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness. –Mal. 3:3 NKJV
  • 10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted,But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. –Pro. 11:10-11 NKJV
  • 2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. –Pro. 29:2 NKJV
  • 10 Your kingdom come.Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 13 And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one.For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. –Mt. 6:10, 13 NKJV
  • 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He[b] is taken out of the way. –2 Thes. 2:7 NKJV
  • 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! –Jn. 4:34-35  NKJV
  • 17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” 19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. –Jn. 5: 17, 19 NKJV
  • 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” –Jn. 6: 29 NKJV
  • 49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” –Lk. 2:49 NKJV
  • 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind,To set at liberty those who are oppressed;  43 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” –Lk. 4:18, 43 NKJV
  • 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” –Lk. 22:42 NKJV
  • 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. –Phil. 2:12-13 NKJV
  • 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” –Gal. 2:2-21 NKJV
  • 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 22 Do you have faith?[a] Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.–Rom. 14:7-8, 16-17, 22-23 NKJV
  • 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. –Rom. 15:13 NKJV
  • Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; –Heb. 12:1-2, 14-15 NKJV
  • 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord;Teach me Your paths.5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me,For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. –Ps. 25:4-5 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • To let Jesus live large in us so the world can see more of Him and less of us.
  • To maintain our potency as salt so that our effect creates a thirst in others to know the Jesus in us.
  • To expand the kingdom qualities to the edges of our inner world so that those who observe us see the kingdom working through us.
  • To possess the quality of Sonship with the Father that our oikos or spheres of influence become well-watered gardens. (Is. 58:10-12)
  • To allow the strength of saltiness in us to melt cold hearts and seasons others with grace and peace.
  • To repent if our saltiness has lost its potency or potential.
  • To have our priority and purpose to have the King’s character formed in us and create an atmosphere in us where the Holy Spirit is unrestrained and is free to instruct, lead, and commune with us.
  • To never allow the quality of our saltiness to be restrained from those around us but be a “salt shaker” to the world we live in.
  • To reflect the True Light and not generate the light on us.

Matthew 5:13b

You are the salt of the earth? It is good for nothing,

but to be thrown out and trampled under the foot of men.

General Direction: To have our saltiness have a potency to season the world and our words with grace leads to hope; to make our salt have a detoxing effect to purge the culture of spiritual poison and pollution; that our salt penetrates politics, leaders, and cultural influences such as media, entertainment, music, movies, and education.

  • 5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. –Col. 4:5-6 NKJV
  • 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint…–Col. 12-13 NKJV
  • 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 20 But you have not so learned Christ…29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. –Eph. 4:15, 20, 29-32 NKJV
  • 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. –1 Pet. 3:15-17 NKJV
  • 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. –1 Pet. 4:8-11 NKJV
  • 12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them. –Rev. 11:12 NKJV
  • 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” –Acts 1:8 NKJV
  • 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem[a]until you are endued with power from on high.” –Lk. 24:49 NKJV
  • 50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” –Mk. 9:50 NKJV
  • 34 “Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?35 It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” –Lk. 14:34-35 NKJV
  • 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. –Jam. 3:13-18 NKJV
  • 33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” –Mt. 12:33-37 NKJV
  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.  16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. –Jn. 1:1, 14, 16-17 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • That our lack of Jesus living large in us is because we have been legalistic, intolerant, and jaded with self-righteousness, and spiritual pride.
  • That we’ve lost our saltiness due to association with those who call evil good and good evil.
  • That we find repentance if our salty impact has become good for nothing and we become overcome by this world.
  • That strength of our seasoning on society would reverse the spiritual decay around us and act as a detox to the poisons and pollutions of sin’s corruption.
  • That the saltiness we possess is as potent as Jesus was.
  • That our speech would be seasoned with grace so that we may know how to answer every person.
  • That we season our minds so we are always prepared to give an answer to those who ask us the reason for our hope.
  • That the potency of our salt effect prevents the rot of society and preserves the goodness of God in the culture.
  • That our salt be powerful, not good for nothing and thrown out because it is not having its intended effect on our generation.

Matthew 5:14-15 NKJV

A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,

but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Psalm 34:5 NIV

Those who look to Him are RADIANT.

General Direction: That our light of leadership and influence would light the way to heavenly wisdom; that our radiance would become brighter to a darkened world around us because of the fire of our devotion would light the way to the Answer; to not be overcome with darkness, but overcome darkness with True Light.

  • 9 For with You is the fountain of life;In Your light we see light. –Ps. 36:9 NKJV
  • 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. –Ps. 119:105 NKJV
  • Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; 2 Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. 3 If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. 5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning— Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. 8 And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities. –Ps. 130 NKJV
  • Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. – 1 Cor. 11:1 NKJV
  • 17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” –Mt. 4:17, 19 NKJV
  • 24 “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”’ 27 “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” –Num. 6:24-27 NKJV
  • 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. –Jn. 1:4-9 NKJV
  • 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. –Jn. 3:19 NKJV
  • 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” –Jn. 8:12 NKJV
  • 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. –2 Cor. 11:13-15 NKJV
  • 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
  • 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. –1 Jn. 1:6-8 NKJV
  • 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. –1 Jn. 2:8-9 NKJV
  • 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. –2 Tim. 1:6 NKJV
  • Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. –Is. 60:1 NKJV
  • 22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! –Mt. 6:22-23 NKJV
  • Searching all the inner depths of his heart. –Pro. 20:27 NKJV
  • 8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. –Job 32:8 NKJV
  • 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. –Phil. 2:5-11 NKJV
  • 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. –Rom. 13:12 NKJV
  • 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” –Eph. 5:8, 13-14 NKJV
  • 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. –1 Thes. 5:5 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • That our lamps have grown dim due to ungratefulness, complaining, and negative attitudes grieving the Holy Spirit.
  • That our light of influence and leadership would be put in a place where the world can see the True Light through us.
  • That our light be the instructions of God to be a lamp to our feet, a light to our pathways, living in understanding not confusion or deception; leave footsteps to follow.
  • That we continue to look to Him to be radiant and in our beholding becoming more like Him.
  • That His face shine on us as little innocent children and the world can see our transparency and integrity radiating our world.
  • That our wattage burn brighter and brighter in the darkest places that it may give light to all in the house.
  • That we repent and refire our lamps if we have hidden them and that the church’s lamp again be set on a hill for a searching world to see the light.
  • That the fire of our devotion remove the dross and impurities from our spheres of influence and the culture of our generation.
  • That our light be “greater” to not be overcome with darkness, but overcome the darkness with light in us.
  • That we have become more worldly with 50 Shades of Gray instead of more godly with 50 Lumens To Lights Bright and Shining.

Matthew 5:16 NKJV

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Isaiah 49:6 NIV

“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I WILL ALSO MAKE YOU A LIGHT for the Gentiles,
that my salvation may reach TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH.”

John 20:21 KJV

As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

General Direction: To live letting the splash of our light spread broad in the world.  To never just perform works for men to see but to birth good works born out of a labor of love to God that men might see and glorify Him; to have powerful fires of baptism; that our light of truth penetrates prayer rooms, class rooms, and court rooms for revival fires to burn brightly.

  1. O TASTE and SEE the LORD is GOOD

Psalm 34:8 NKJV

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

James 1:17 NLT

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

General Direction: To see that when the world tastes and sees as they will know the Lord is good, righteous, and true; to revive the unused gifts of the Holy Spirit t(Motivational, Ministry, and Spiritual) to see our Sonship and service; for this world to see Jesus in us because of our transparency, sincerity, and integrity.

  • 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:“Awake, you who sleep,Arise from the dead,And Christ will give you light.” 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. –Eph. 5:8-17 NKJV
  • 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves. –Mal. 4:2 NKJV
  • 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? –Acts 3:12 NKJV
  • 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. –Acts 4:12-13 NKJV
  • 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” –Acts 1:8 NKJV
  • 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” –Acts 2:38-39 NKJV
  • 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” 17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” –Mk. 1:15, 17 NKJV
  • 13 And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. 14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: –Mk. 3:13-15 NKJV
  • 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” –Mk. 10:44-45 NKJV
  • 7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, –Heb. 5:7-9 NKJV
  • 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. –Heb. 6:4-6, 10-12 NKJV
  • 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.—Phil. 4:8-9 NKJV
  • 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. –1 Tim. 4:14-16 NKJV
  • 19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, –Gal. 4:19 NKJV
  • 26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. –Col. 1:26-28 NKJV
  • 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? –Rom. 2:4 NKJV
  • 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ –Acts 17:26-28 NIV
  • 47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Lk. 12:47-48 NIV
  • 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. –Rom. 14:16-17 NKJV
  • 19 For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. 20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.–Rom. 16:19-20 NKJV
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation;Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life;Of whom shall I be afraid?  13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. –Ps. 27:1, 13 NKJV
  • 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ –Acts 26:18 NKJV

*Lamp trimmer was a specialist position on board ships that involved maintaining oil lamps.

In the days when light came from burning oil in lamps, a vessel at sea needed crewmen to constantly care for the lamps. This care involved trimming the wick, which drew the oil up from the storage reservoir, so that the flame would be clean and bright. Lamp trimmers also refilled the reservoirs, which held enough oil for several hours of burning, but not enough to start a major fire if the lamp were to be knocked down or damaged somehow. As vessels became larger, the number of lamp trimmers increased significantly, because the only lighting below decks came from lamps. The position of lamp trimmer was so entrenched into marine tradition that electricians were called lamp trimmers for years after oil lamps had been completely replaced.

The skilled part of being a lamp trimmer was the ability to trim a wick in such a way that it would burn evenly, without hot spots, so that it would not need attention again for some time. A poorly trimmed wick creates a flame which is dim and smoky. A properly trimmed wick should come to a rounded point, or should be wedge shaped. When lit, the wick should burn cleanly all the way up to the highest flame it can make. The flame should be at least the width of the wick, and even, not ragged.
