R3 Alliance Online Prayer, OBEDIENCE TO THE LAST COMMAND, Wednesday, February 7, 2018

(Five Components of Obedience to Christ’s Final Command)

Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… …teaching them to observe ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

John 17:18 NKJV

As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

Introduction:

Consider the scope of our Lord’s commands as He prepared to ascend the right hand of the throne to intercede for our mission to His mandate.  Go into all the world; make disciples of all men; teaching them to observe all things have commanded you; you shall witness unto Me…to the ends of the earth; I am with you always.  We cannot claim to be any of His if we do not embrace all of His commands.  God measures love by obedience.  The Great Commission, in large part, has become the Great Omission of the church today.  To go into all the world and make disciples of all men is a labor of love to the One who loved us unconditionally.

Author Andrew Murray said it well: The command is no arbitrary law from without.  It is simply the revelation for our intelligent and voluntary consent of the wonderful truth that we are His body, that we now occupy His place on earth, and that His will and love now carry out through us the work He began, and that now in His stead we live to seek the Father’s glory in winning a lost world back to Him. (With Christ in the School of Obedience)

To obey His final command is inseparably bound to His will and ways.   He said, In as much as you did it to the least of these you did it unto Me; If you love Me, care for My sheep, including the one lost from the 99.  Paul the Apostle even identified the persecution he experienced in proclaiming the Gospel of Christ in very personal terms: I bear on my body the scars of the Lord Jesus. (Galatians 6:17)

The Bible is not ambiguous regarding the tribulations, sufferings, rejection, even, hatred that will be levied against those who fulfill the final command.  Jesus spoke in absolutes, all-inclusive, no-holds-barred language leaving no soul untouched no nation without witness.  Our only response is to obey in love.  Everything Jesus did on this earth was out of His love and honor to the Father’s name and will. Jesus took the form of a servant and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.  It was through Christ’s obedience God displayed His love.  God demonstrated His love for us while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8; Jn. 3:16)  Obedience is the first choice in the final fulfillment of God’s love.  This through our stewardship as servants to the kingdom on earth for Him.

The fitness test is the distance between that which I did and left undone.  Here the heavenly scales measure between eternal rewards and eternal regrets.  The Bible clearly states: He who wins souls is wise. (Proverb 11:30)  The Last Command is not an option or opinion.  Obedience is the arc between the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.  Jesus set the example, secured the victory, delegates His authority, and gives us Holy Spirit power to fulfill His command.  All with full disclosure of the resistance, rebellion, and adversity that awaits those who go into the highways and byways.

We are not told we have to wait until we are perfect.  Just those who are learning obedience through perfected love.  We are not chided because we do not have a PH.D. in theology.  We are invited to bear witness, share our testimony, and believe God for His power demonstrated in our weaknesses.

Those who obey His Last Command discover the adventure of being Jesus with skin to a lost humanity.  We experience the honor of observing His power overtaking a sinner bringing them to repentance and salvation.  We observe healings and deliverance from evil powers holding a soul in bondage.  We experience a special intimacy reserved by the Lord Himself for those who encounter persecution and suffering for His sake.

Today we pray into five components where the obedience to the Last Commandment must be developed to maturity and maintained until death do us part.

  • Having His Heart
  • Hearing His Voice
  • Harnessing His Power
  • Harvesting His Fields
  • Hosting His Helper

Jesus said, Freely you’ve received, freely give.  He made it His final exit instructions to implement the last commandment through the Holy Spirit who would come in the Upper Room.  Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up after that He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments…(Acts 1:1-2)

Even now He is interceding for our success, our co-labor with His love, our living to die and dying to live.  Even now He says, Whom shall I send?  Who will go for Me?  We say, Here am I Lord, send me!  I will be about My Father’s business seeking and saving that which was lost.  We will be Your body, extend Your work, and labor in love as faithful stewards of the Gospel You have entrusted to us.

Let us not forget the final words of His final command: I am with you always…  As God was with Jesus until He said “It is finished” then God will be with us until we finish what He started in us and for us.

  1. HAVING HIS HEART   (To feel God’s love and compassion for the lost)

John 3:16 NKJV

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8 NKJV

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Matthew 14:14 NKJV

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them…

General Direction:  To allow God to flood our hearts continually in prayer and pursuit of the lost; to be moved with compassion and compelled by the love of Christ for sinners; to show our love for God and sinner by being a witness and entering into all phases of the harvest; sowing, watering, and reaping.

Scriptures:

  • 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ 36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. –Acts 13:22, 36 NIV
  • 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” –Jn. 17:20, 23, 26 NKJV
  • 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” –Jn. 13: 34-35 NKJV
  • 14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; — 2 Cor. 5:14 NKJV
  • 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. –Gal. 2:20 NKJV
  • 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. –1 Jn. 3:16 NIV
  • 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the Day of Judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. –1 Jn. 4:7-8, 17-19 NIV
  • See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. –1 Jn. 3:1 NIV
  • It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. –Jn. 13:1 NIV
  • 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. –Jn. 15:9 NIV
  • 3 The Lordhas appeared of old to me, saying:“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.–Jer. 31:3 NKJV
  • 5 Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. –2 Thes. 3:5 NKJV
  • 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. –Jude 21-23 NKJV
  • The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. –Gal. 5:6b NIV
  • 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. –Eph. 3:17-19 NKJV
  • 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. –Eph. 1:4-6 NKJV
  • 11 For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. –Mt. 18:11 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • To possess the heart of the Father in prayer and pursuit.
  • To allow the Holy Spirit to move us with compassion for the lost.
  • To remember God’s unconditional love and amazing grace that stooped down into our pit of destruction and rescued us or saved us and delivered us at a young age to live the blessed life.
  • To crucify the old sin nature and put on the new nature created in righteousness and holiness and make a distinction as being one with the Father and Son and His body so the world will know He sent His Son to the world in love.
  • To allow the love of God to be poured into our hearts to love the lost the way we are loved by God.
  • To remember it is the love of Christ that compels us to the world, not condemnation of legalism.
  • To realize that having all the gifts and giving to the poor or any work does nothing if it is not faith expressing itself through love.

  1. HEARING HIS VOICE   (To be Spirit-led and speak Spirit words in witness and testimony)

Isaiah 28:23, 26: 30:21 NKJV

Give ear and hear my voice,
Listen and hear my speech.

For He instructs him in right judgment,
His God teaches him.

your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”…

General Direction: To know that knowing and hearing God’s voice is essential in having a relationship with the living God in the last days; to understand that sin and the things of this world can drown out our hearing; to daily put ourselves in the place where we can hear His voice so we can do what He tells us as daily bread.

Scriptures:

  • 12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” –Heb. 3:12-15 NIV
  • 7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. –Heb. 5:7-8 NKJV
  • 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. 15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” –Deut. 30:14-16, 19-20 NKJV
  • 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” –Jsh. 1:8-9 NKJV
  • Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners,Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,And in His law he meditates day and night.3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water,That brings forth its fruit in its season,Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. –Ps. 1:1-3 NKJV
  • 22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.” –1 Sam 15:22-23 NKJV
  • 10 “Who among you fears the Lord?Who obeys the voice of His Servant?Who walks in darkness And has no light?Let him trust in the name of the Lord And rely upon his God. 4 “The Lord God has given Me The tongue of the learned,That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning,He awakens My ear To hear as the learned. –Is. 50:10, 4 NKJV
  • 3 Incline your ear, and come to Me.Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David. 6 Seek the Lord while He may be found,Call upon Him while He is near. –Is. 55:3, 6 NKJV
  • 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
  • 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’” –Rev. 3:20-22 NKJV
  • 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations— –Rev. 2:26 NKJV
  • 9 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” –Acts 5:29 NKJV
  • 15 As the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses. –Jsh. 11:15 NKJV
  • 5 as when a man goes to the woods with his neighbor to cut timber, and his hand swings a stroke with the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live; –Deut. 19:5 NKJV
  • 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. –Jam. 1:19-25 NKJV
  • 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” –Jn. 2:5, 10 NKJV
  • 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”–Jn. 2:3-5, 15-16 NKJV
  • 38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” –Lk. 10:38-42 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • To dial in our whole heart and fine tune our hearing to listen to God’s voice and do what He says.
  • To remove any clutter or hindrances that could drop the communication lines because if we regard sin in our hearts the Lord will not hear us—but there is forgiveness with confession and repentance.
  • To be quick to hear, slow to speak, and uncompromising in doing.
  • To learn to not walk in the world’s counsel or ways but to sit, walk, and stand with God.
  • To know the most important thing in the last days is to know His voice and not follow the voice of strangers.
  • To understand that in hearing His voice and obeying His word will see the difference between us and them and perhaps give us opportunity to share Christ in our witness as open books being read by all men.
  • To practice to always hear and do what Holy Spirit says and avoid selective hearing and hardening of our hearts.
  • To learn to listen to the Holy Spirit in praying and sharing with the lost, lonely, broken, and dysfunctional.

  1. HARNESSING HIS POWER (To demonstrate God’s wisdom and power not man’s will or ways)

Luke 24:49 NKJV

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you;

but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you ARE ENDUED WITH POWER FROM ON HIGH.”

Acts 1:8 NKJV

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

General Direction:  To understand that without His power we can do nothing, but with His power we can do all things; that we must never rely on will-power, emotion, or men’s methods but on the demonstration of God’s power; to know that power awaits us on the frontiers of ministry and battlelines; to learn to seek and wait for God’s strength.

Scriptures:

  • 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.—Acts 10:38 NKJV
  • 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ –Acts. 26:18 NKJV
  • 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” –Acts 3:6 NKJV
  • 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. –Acts 4:33 NKJV
  • 3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.4 Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.  9 And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’  16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”  18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” – Lk. 10:3-4, 9, 16, 18-20 NKJV
  • 21 And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight. 22 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. 23 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” –Lk. 7:21-23 NKJV
  • 14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. –Lk. 4:14 NKJV
  • 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, –Phil. 3:10 NKJV
  • And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. –1 Cor. 2:1-5 NKJV
  • 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. –2 Cor. 4:7 NKJV
  • 8 But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord,And of justice and might,To declare to Jacob his transgression And to Israel his sin. –Mic. 3:8 NKJV
  • 6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. –Zech. 4:6 NKJV
  • 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles,They shall run and not be weary,They shall walk and not faint. –Is. 40:31 NKJV
  • 10 Fear not, for I am with you;Be not dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you,Yes, I will help you,I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ –Is. 41:10 NKJV
  • 32 Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. –Dan. 11:32 NKJV
  • 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. –2 Cor. 12:9-10 NKJV
  • 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. –Mt. 28:18 NKJV
  • 8 But if you go, be gone! Be strong in battle! Even so, God shall make you fall before the enemy; for God has power to help and to overthrow.” –2 Chron. 25:8 NKJV
  • 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began –Rom. 16:25 NKJV
  • 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. –Jude 20-23 NKJV
  • 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. –Eph. 6:10-12 NKJV

Prayer Points:

  • To realize that without Holy Spirit power we can do nothing, but with Him we can do all things.
  • To seek the Lord in devotion of prayer and fasting for the anointing of the Holy Spirit and power.
  • To learn to rely on Holy Spirit power and demonstration not will-power, emotion, intellect, methods, models, or programs of men.
  • To practice to wait on the Lord to gain new strength and pray in the Holy Spirit to build up our most holy faith to minister to the lost.
  • To understand that God promises power for those who go into the highways and byways and valleys of decision to visit our outreach there.
  • To comprehend that the Holy Spirit has gone before us in prevenient grace to convict the sinner of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
  • To be confident that those who truly know their God will be strong in Him and on the power of His might to do mighty exploits in this world.

  1. HARVESTING HIS FIELDS  (To Co-labor where God is winnowing and winning souls)

Luke 10:2 NKJV

Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

John 4:35 Wuest

Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes at once, and view attentively the fields, that they are white for harvest, Already the one who is reaping is receiving pay and is gathering together fruit for eternal life, in order that he who is sowing and he who is reaping may rejoice together.

General Direction: To know that we need to prayer for labors to the harvest. The harvest- is-ready needing laborers to be equipped and prepared to effectively plant, water, and reap the field of souls; to not just agree with the Great Commission by creed but by obeying His Last Command in deed by going and seeking and saving the lost.

Scriptures:

  • “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you.
