Habakkuk 3:2 Taylor Translation

O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe for the fearful things you are going to do.

In this time of our deep need, begin again to help us, as you did in years gone by.  Show us your power to save us, In your wrath, remember mercy.

Psalm 85:6 NKJV

Will You not revive us again, That your people may rejoice in You?

 Show us now mercy, LORD, and grant us your salvation.

Introduction:

October 31st will mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation/ Protestant Movement.  It is arguably one of the most significant moves of God since the Upper Room Invasion 2,000 years ago.  The Reformation transcended multiple barriers from religious, educational, government, business, and most importantly spiritual.

Today we are seeking to tap into what was unleashed through the Reformer Martin Luther during his time in history.  Although, the church global is in need of doctrinal adjustments and teaching corrections, the greatest need is a Reformation of the Hearts and Minds of God’s people along with a Reformation of our Hands and Feet being about the Father’s business to change the earth by touching heaven.

There different terms used by teachings and writings to refer to awakening, revival, and reformation.  However, a scholarly research of definitions reveal that they are similar but distinct in their impact.  Let us provide an operating definition of these three:

  • Awakening is the power of God falling on saints and sinners, regions and nations to make them aware of their condition and need to awaken from spiritual slumber.
  • Revival is God visiting His church to bring it back to its purpose and potential which will effect first saints then sinners.
  • Reformation is God operating to bring needed change in the motives, minds, and methods of ministry and community transformation.

The age-old debate is whether a “move of God” is sovereign on His part or is produced by men?  Most scholars would concede it is probably both.  We observe God acting within Himself at times, as well as, chosen change agents acting as catalysts to create the conditions ripe for revival and outpouring.  What is for sure is that the global church is pass due.  Our history records a Great Awakening has occurred around every 100 years that changed the climate and trajectory of the entire nation.  There have been pockets of outpouring but none to rise to the level of the previous Great Awakenings.

Other significant moves of God in recent years would include the Jesus Movement of the 60’s and the Charismatic Renewal of the 70’s and 80’s.  America is poised for a 100 year bloom in the desert!

Scripture is replete with references to men calling on God for divine visitation.  There is no question whether it is God’s will to come the question is the resolve of believers to release a high tide of prayer, preaching, and repentance that will raise all vessels and cause heaven to descend.  We are twice given a picture in heaven of golden bowls which contain the prayers of the saints which had ascended before God’s throne.  One reference reveals an angel mixing the prayers of the saints with fire from the altar in heaven and hurling it to earth.  Apparently there is a tipping point from the place where the saints had raised the standard and God awaits the right timing.  (See Rev. 5:8; 8:3-5)

Our intercession today is to make our voices heard on high as we seek to hear from heaven for forgiveness and healing for our land!  Let us pray with passion as we stir ourselves to take hold of heaven and pray as did the Prophet Habakkuk that we would experience outpouring in this place at this time for this generation!.

We’ll direct our prayers into Five Operating Definitions Heavenly Invasion:  Awakening the Nation, Transforming Communities and Cities, Reforming the Culture, Renewing the Purpose, and Reviving the Church.

  1. AWAKENING THE NATION

Ephesians 5:14 NKJV

Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead and Christ will give you light.

 a•wak•en•ing;

to excite from a state resembling sleep; to put into action, or new life; to stir or rouse from a state of inaction; to arise from spiritual slumber and awake in the light of righteousness                           (N. Webster’s 1828 Dictionary)

AWAKENING Biblically and historically is not limited to the people of God but includes a national awareness of sinful condition, compromise, and residual crises.

General Direction:  For God to fall on America with a Third Great Awakening that would impact the collective consciousness of all men, women, boys, and girls; that the visitation of God would sweep multitudes of souls into salvation and the kingdom of heaven would be advanced to every part of the nation.

Scriptures:

  • 11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. –Rom. 13:11-14 NKJV
  • 6 “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” 7 “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. –Ps. 2:6-8, 11-12 NKJV
  • Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean! Shall no longer come to you. 10 The Lord has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of all the nations; And all the ends of the earth shall see The salvation of our God.— Is. 52:1, 10b NKJV
  • Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. —Is. 60:1-2 NKJV
  • 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. 17 For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. –Is. 59:16-17 NKJV
  • 7 And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities. –Is. 64:7 NKJV
  • 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves. –Mal. 4:2 NKJV
  • 6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. –Zech. 4:6 NKJV
  • 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. –Hos. 4:6 NKJV
  • 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. –Jn. 6:63 NKJV
  • 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. –Is. 55:11 NIV
  • 12 Sow with a view to righteousness [that righteousness, like seed, may germinate];Reap in accordance with mercy and lovingkindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, For it is time to seek and search diligently for the Lord [and to long for His blessing] Until He comes to rain righteousness and His gift of salvation on you. 13 You have plowed and planted wickedness, you have reaped the [willful] injustice [of oppressors], You have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and your chariots, and in your many warriors, –Hos. 10:12-13 Amp.
  • 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; –1 Pet. 2:9 NKJV
  • Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins. 6 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ “If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, –Is. 58:1, 6-9 NKJV
  • 4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 9 Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’” 10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.  14 I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’”  –Ez. 37:4, 9-10, 14 NKJV
  • 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. 28 Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. 29 I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. –Ez. 36:25-29a NKJV

  1. TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES and CITIES

Matthew 5:13-16 Amplified

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people [when the walkways are wet and slippery].

14 “You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.

  • 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. Habakkuk 3:2 NKJV

Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid;
O LORD, REVIVE YOUR WORK in the midst of (our) years!
In the midst of the years MAKE IT KNOWN;
In wrath remember mercy.

Psalm 85:6 KJV

Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

re•viv•al;

return, recall, or recovery to life from death or apparent death; to turn and return from a state of neglect, oblivion, and obscurity; to activate souls towards their spiritual needs                                      (N. Webster’s 1828 Dictionary)

REVIVAL Biblically and history was directly related to the people of God exclusively obtaining spiritual fire and maintaining zealous fervency towards the Lord and His house; a comeback from a state of apathy, passivity, and atrophy to the resurgence of the church as a passionate people pursuing the heart of God for souls and nations.

General Direction:  For the church to establish her position and reach her potential in Christ; for the body of Christ to be measured by being hot not cold and overflowing with the zeal of the Lord, having His heart for the nation.
