Awakening Champions Day 4 – AWAKENING JOY

“And be not grieved and depressed FOR THE JOY OF THE LORD

IS YOUR STRENGTH and STRONGHOLD.”

Nehemiah 8:10 Amplified

 

Introduction:                                                                                 

JOY (chedvậh)

To rejoice; to be made glad; holy happiness; enjoy;

the presence of the Lord’s fullness; to source of God’s chosen strength

 

“With JOY you will draw from the wells of salvation.”  Isaiah 12:3 NKJV

The prophet Isaiah uses the plural for “wells” in reference the totality of everything salvation offers.  The implication is that, although there is only one spring of living waters (See Jer. 2:13), there are many wells of salvation.  In other words, there is one River, the Holy Spirit, and many streams i.e. healing, deliverance, anointing, power, peace, provision, and joy and peace.  In Fact joy is second in the list of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, just to name of few.  (See Gal. 5:22)

C.S. Lewis wrote: “Joy is the serious business of heaven.”  When the adversary seeks to devour our strength he maneuvers to erode our joy.  God is saying here use joy to dip down into the wells of salvation to increase your joy.  The more joy the more strength!

When praying into the AWAKENING of JOY we learn that there are FOUR SOURCES or FOUR WELLS from which to draw from.  As we draw from these four wells of salvation tonight let us both believe into what they offer, as well as, implement them into our daily living, using these 5 days as a starting point establish Spirit-led patterns.

“The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding DRAWS THEM OUT.”  (Prov. 20:5 NIV)

FOUR WELLS TO DRAW JOY FROM

  • KNOWING I’M LOVED
  • LEARNING TO BE CONTENT
  • HAVING GREAT WORTH
  • GIVING GREAT WORTH

 

  • KNOWING I’M LOVED 

“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken to you, THAT MY JOY MAY REMAIN IN YOU AND YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL.” –Jesus (Jn. 15:10-11 NKJV)

IN PRAYER, DRAW FROM FATHER’S LOVE

Awaken our Awareness to:

  • Love was the reason You gave Your Only begotten Son. (Jn. 3:16; 1 Jn. 3:1-3)
  • Your love is everlasting. (Jer. 31:3)
  • You already demonstrated Your love for us. (Rom. 5:8)  (You cannot love us any more or any less than you do through Your Son!)
  • You did not withhold any love when you gave up Your Son. (Rom. 8:32-38)
  • Nothing can separate us from Your love for us in Christ. (Rom 8:37-39)
  • Through Your love we are made more than conquerors. (Rom. 8:37)
  • Remind us that we wear “joy” as a crown because of love. (Is. 51:11; 35:10)
  • Your Word is a source of our joy. (Jer. 15:16)
  • Father, YOU are the JOY OF THE WHOLE EARTH. (Ps. 48:2)
  • Remind us that in Your presence is the FULLNESS OF JOY. (Ps. 16:11)
  • We position ourselves to the place where you can pour Your love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit! (Rom. 5:5)
  • We exchange sorrow for joy in Your presence by Your power. (Isa. 61:1-3)

 

  • LEARNING TO BE CONTENT             

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I HAVE LEARNED TO BE CONTENT whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I HAVE LEARNED THE SECRET OF BEING CONTENT in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”  (Phil. 4:11-13 NIV)

 

IN PRAYER, WE DRAW FROM LEARNING CONTENTMENT

Awaken our Awareness:

  • A man’s life does not consist of all the things he possesses. (Lk. 12:15)
  • That love of money is the root of many kinds of evil. (1 Tim. 6:10 NIV)
  • If riches increase we are not to SET OUR HEARTS on them. (Ps. 62:10 )
  • Tonight we bind fear and depression from us—we loose a garment of praise and shout for joy.
  • We bind up discontentment and cast down doubt and we will learn the secret of being content and we will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house. (Ps. 65:5)
  • We cast down idolatry and idleness—we loose true worship and fruitfulness.
  • We bind woundedness and rejection—we loose healing and acceptance.
  • We cast down legalism and religion—we loose grace and relationship.
  • The blessing of the LORD makes us rich and You add no sorrow to it. (Prov. 10:22)
  • We choose joy and rejoicing in suffering and persecution. (Matt. 5: 12-14)
  • There is joy unspeakable full of glory at the end of our faith. (1 Pet. 1:5-8; Jam. 1:3-7)
  • When we delight ourselves in You –You give us the desires of our hearts. (Ps. 37:4)
  • We learn contentment when we place “You first in all things”. ( Matt. 6:33)
  • Teach us that: godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Tim. 6:6-9)
  • For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing LET US THEREWITH BE CONTENT.  (Heb. 13:5)
  • Remind us that joy is a key to health and wholeness. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.”  (Prov. 17:22)
  • Help us to remember that YOU ARE THE SOUL SOURCE OF OUR JOY. “Restore to me the joy of your strength.” (Ps. 51:12)
  • “The chief aim of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.” Westminster Confession 1663
  • Help us to remember to: “Trust in the living God…who gives us richly ALL THINGS TO ENJOY.”  (1 Tim. 6:17)
  • Our determination tonight is to: “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice.” (Phil. 4:6) RE-joy – put joy back into our rejoicing!
  • “This is the day You have made we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Ps. 118:24)
  • Joy is the obvious outcome of our intimacy with the Father. (Ps. 16:11; 51:12)
  • We have found joy in consuming You and Your words. (Jer. 15:16)
  • Spring up o’ well within my soul—out of your inner being shall flow rivers of living water. (Jn. 7:38)
  • Father, you have “made us glad”. (Ps. 92:4)
  • Make the joy of the Lord contagious among us so we can spread joy around us. (Acts 8:8; 15:3)

 

  • HAVING GREAT WORTH 

IN PRAYER, WE DRAW FROM HAVING GREAT WORTH WITH OUR GOD             

Awaken our Awareness:

  • Your promise to rejoice over us with gladness and singing.

“The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”    (Zeph. 3:17 NKJV)

  • You promise to never abandon us.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”  (Heb. 13:5 NIV)

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matt. 28:20b)

  • You are a very-present help

So we say with confidence,“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?”  (Heb. 13:6)

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”  (Ps. 46:1 NIV)

  • The Father’s pleasure is to give us possession of the kingdom of immeasurable worth.

“For it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Lk. 12:32)

  • We have joy set before us and self-contained for us with You.

“But I will see you again and you will rejoice and no one will take away your joy.”  (Jn. 16:22 NIV)

  • We were the “joy set before You” as you endured the suffering and shame of the cross. (Heb. 12:2)
  • Help us to consider that every blessing, every promise, all your benefits have already been freely given to us because You had already set Your love on us from the foundation of the world. (Eph. 1:1-3; 1 Cor. 1:20; Ps. 103: 1-5)
  • Our lips will praise You because Your loving kindness is better than life. (Ps. 63:3-5 NIV)
  • You and You alone are the source of our joy. The rivers of His pleasure…all of our fountains are in You. (Ps. 36:8-9)
  • I am the fountain of living water. (Jer. 2:13; Jn. 7:38)
    • We can have more joy if we humble ourselves to receive. “The humble shall INCREASE their joy.” (Is. 29:19)

 

  • GIVING GREAT WORTH 

IN PRAYER, WE DRAW FROM THE WELL OF GIVING AWAY GREAT WORTH

Awaken our Awareness:

  • You are the ultimate giver of joy. “For God so loved that He gave…”  (Jn. 3:16)
  • We are more blessed when we give than when we receive. (Acts 20:35)
  • We find joy when we freely give as we have freely received. (Matt. 10:8)
  • Grace abounds where giving is supplied. (2 Cor. 9:8 NIV)
  • We will allow the rivers of Your pleasure flow through us to a dry and thirsty land. (Ps. 36:5-9)

“There is a river whose streams MAKE GLAD the city of God…”  (Ps. 46:4 NIV)

  • Help us to open the windows of heaven to the ebb and flow of the joy and peace in heaven and bring it here to earth.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  (Rom. 15:13 NKJV)

“How beautiful on the mountains
    are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
    who bring good tidings,
    who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
    “Your God reigns!”   (Is.52:7)

  • Help us to remember: The only thing better than going to heaven is to take somebody with us! “There is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.” Lk. 15:7                                                               (Is. 52:7; Jam. 5:20; Jude 21-23)
  • Help us to realize and awaken to the blessing of giving and generosity.

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
    another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. 

 A generous person will prosper;
    whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”  (Prov. 11:24-25 NIV)

  • “Whatever a man sow that shall also he reap.” (Gal. 6:7-9)
  • Remind us that God has a special love reserved in giving.

“…for God loves a cheerful giver.”  (2 Cor. 9:7b)

  • Baptize us with Your joy—it is the signature of your people.

“These men are not drunk as you suppose.  No this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel: In the last days I will pour out My Spirit…” (Acts 2:15, 17)

An everlasting joy shall be upon their heads…They shall obtain gladness and joy.  (Is. 35:10; 51:11)

As we conclude in the presence of the Lord where there is fullness of joy, Father, remind us to enjoy You in the wells of salvation.

  • REVIEW 

Joy is awakened when we draw from:                                     

  • Knowing – I know I am loved eternally and unconditionally.
  • Learning – I’m content – I have learned the contentment of having You and Your presence whether abased or abound.
  • Having—I am worthy – Because you estimated my worthiness when you gave Your Son to die for me.
  • Giving—I am a giver –I give because you first gave to me and I want to be like You.

The Blessing

“Go out with joy and be led forth with peace…” (Is. 55:12)

“He had made us glad!”  (Ps. 46:4)

“We will rejoice for You have made us glad! (Ps. 92:4)
